Fast Forward Program
The Fast Forward program provides every student attending an Idaho public school an allocation of $4,125.00 to use towards Advanced Opportunities in grades 7-12. The program was expanded by the Legislature in 2016 through the passing of Senate Bill 1292.
The funds can be used for:
Dual credit courses are taken by high school students. These courses are transcribed on both their high school and college transcripts. The Fast Forward program can pay for up to $75.00 per credit hour. Dual Credit courses can also be taken online, by virtual conferencing, or in some cases students can go directly to the college/university campus. All dual credit courses must be transcribed on the students’ high school transcript.
Overload CoursesAn overload course is a high school level course that is taken in excess of the student’s regular school day. These courses are offered online, during the summertime, and after school. In the event that student incurs a cost for such courses, the Fast Forward program can pay up to $225.00 for the cost of the course. Overload courses must be above and beyond the full course load offered by the student’s local school. BYU Independent classes do not qualify for fast forward funding.
West Ada high school students should have a 3.0 or higher GPA and must be taking a full course load of at least 12 credits per year.
West Ada middle school students should have a 3.0 or higher GPA and must be taking a full course load of 7 classes per semester, the maximum allowed in a school day.
Fast Forward funds may not be used for repeated or remedial course work.
Adavanced Placement, International Baccalaureate, College Level Examination Program and Career Technical Exams may be paid for using fast forward funds. A complete list of approved exams can be found at https://www.sde.idaho.gov/student-engagement/advanced-ops/shared/AO-Approved-Exams-and-Costs.pdf.
The Fast Forward participation form is now located exclusively in the PowerSchool parent portal, under the "Update Student Information" section.
You will fill out and submit the form directly in PowerSchool. This can only be done under your parent login, not the student login. This form will only appear after all other required forms are completed for students 7-12 grade. This form only needs to be completed once.
Deadlines for registration:
- There are deadlines to meet for fast forward fund requests AND enrolling through the college/university. You MUST complete both steps to be fully enrolled in the dual credit course and have it paid for using fast forward funds. Fast forward registration deadlines are indicated in the instrucion documents below. Please see your teacher or specific college for the college/course registration deadline.
Fast Forward Flags:
- Failure to complete or pass an exam or course that has been approved for fast forward funding may cause your funds to become frozen. A red flag will be placed on your state fast forward account. It is important to remember that failure to pass a course or score above the requried level for an exam will result in a freeze of your fast forward funds. To relase these funds, you MUST pay for the next course/exam and earn credit for that course. Your funds will remain frozen until both steps are completed.
