Residential Construction Pathway
The West Ada Career Technical Education (CTE) Residential Construction program offers students a hands-on learning experience, straight from a construction job site. This awesome pathway begins in the 10th grade, where students will travel to CTE Center- Renaissance Campus to learn basic carpentry skills, safety procedures, blueprint reading, rigging, construction math and proper use of hand and power tools, in Construction I.
Students will finish out the pathway with Construction II & III during their 11th and 12th grade years. This is where the fun begins! Students will put their skills to use on an active construction job site where they will take part in a community construction project. A CTE shuttle will transport students to and from the job site, which will serve as their new classroom.
While on location at the construction job site, students will be expected to wear proper safety equipment and dress appropriately for the day. Students will participate in all aspects of the building process including framing of floor and walls, installation of roofing materials, siding, windows, doors, drywall, cabinets and painting. In addition, safety instruction and construction terminology will also be mastered by students, as well as completion of OSHA training.
