Mr. Ivan Peterson - Social Studies

Welcome, I am a Treasure Valley native that grew up on a mink ranch in Star and graduated from Meridian High School in 1983.  I went to the University of Idaho where I studied and taught for 25+ years.

I have been with the West Ada School district since the fall of 2014 and enjoy teaching in the online environment.

I believe that for Social Studies is about teaching us to be better problem solvers. Ultimately, we study the past to help us understand the present and predict the future with greater accuracy and thus have more control over our lives.

I am also active with the Idaho State Historical Society and teach rapier. I compete nationally in various rapier and longsword tournaments.

My favorite hobbies involve my family, Bicycling, Karate, Gymnastics, and games.

Currently my favorite games are “Munchkin-Zombies or Munchkin -Superheroes”, “King of New York”, “Settlers of Catan”. My kids have recently discovered “Magic the gathering”

I look forward to helping you, and or your child achieve your goals. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or concerns.

Ms. Jenifer Cavaness-Williams - English Language Arts

Welcome to English Class!  I am a native Idahoan who grew up in American Falls, went to college in Moscow, and now live in Meridian.  I feel fortunate I have been able to travel a lot.  I studied French for a month in Angers, France (and toured Paris for a week) and was even fluent at one point.  I've also been to Mexico, Canada, Italy, Hawaii, Israel and Egypt.

I am married to a software engineer who works at Tsheets by Intuit, the company which makes Turbo Tax.  He loves building and flying drones/quadcopters.  I love music, especially the music of North Africa and the Middle East.  We have a sixteen-year-old son and fourteen-year-old daughter.

I started teaching a long time ago (BC - Before Cellphones) at the Vallivue District, worked a few sessions for the legislature as a secretary, and have taught in several other Treasure Valley school districts.  I was also able to be a full-time mom until my kids were fourteen and twelve-years-old.

The English Language is becoming an auxiliary world language, and it is becoming even more important to be able to use English well, no matter what you decide to do after you graduate.  Using the English Language well is one of the most important tools you will gain in school, and I'm excited to help you learn and improve language skills.
