Ms. Emma Shuck
Hello BMSA families! My name is Emma Shuck, and I feel honored to serve as your new school counselor this 2021-2022 school year.
To benefit and meet the needs of the BMSA community, I will meet with students individually, facilitate small groups, conduct classroom SEL guidance lessons, and assist with school-wide events. I will also collaborate with staff and families using multi-tiered levels of instruction and intervention school programs to help meet the needs of and provide the appropriate level of support to all students. Through strength-based and evidence-based techniques, I use a combination of Brief Solution Focused and Cognitive Behavioral approaches to help encourage and empower students. I will help our students learn to be mindful in their behaviors and actions, helping them to make a mind-body connection - bringing their minds to where their bodies are. I use trauma-informed language that is kind, patient, empathetic, and effective to support the whole child. I am committed to being proactive and providing action-oriented solutions through a lens of diversity appreciation and equity to help build resiliency and wellness among our BMSA community. I am excited to help every one of our life-long learners find the imaginative, innovative, and inventive problem-solver within themselves. By providing a comprehensive school counseling program designed using the American School Counselor Association’s National Model as a framework, I have the privilege to help all students gain the tools necessary to be successful academically, socially, and emotionally. As the school counselor, I can provide short-term support to students who may have an issue that adversely impacts their ability to learn. If/When needed, I can provide a list of outside resources within the community to students and families who may need additional therapeutic support.
I am grateful to be joining a community of educators and learners who value mental and emotional health. Together we can ensure our school climate is one that provides a safe, positive, and inclusive learning environment. As a life-long learner myself, I have always known how vital education is to the success of my future endeavors. I obtained my BA from CSU Sacramento in Child Development with a concentration in Early Development, Care, and Education, a minor in Deaf Studies and a minor in Counseling, and I recently earned my MA in School Counseling from the University of Southern California. When I’m not at BMSA this school year helping our little ones find the tools to help conquer some of life’s challenges, you can find me enjoying Idaho's great outdoors, spending quality time with my family, friends, and pets, traveling, or taking a class or two to learn something new.
I am looking forward to serving the BMSA community as a resource for students, their families, and staff. Please reach out to me either by phone at (208) 855-4432 or by email at email@example.com with any questions or concerns. To request that your student check-in with me, please fill-out the Counselor Check-in Request Form. Thank you!
