Summer Reading Challenge

Summer Reading Program

Dear Parent,

Summer reading promotes reading for pleasure, helps students develop into life-long readers, and maintains students’ reading skills (Cornish 2003).

It is estimated that summer breaks will cause the average student to lose up to one month of instruction. Reading during the summer provides students with the opportunities to practice and maintain the reading skills and strategies they have been taught all year.

For the summer of 2019, River Valley Elementary students may participate in our Summer Reading challenge which will start June 1, 2019, and run until August 25, 2019.

Your child’s reading efforts will be rewarded when he/she returns to school in the fall. Please have your child bring their reading log back to school the first week we come back.

Click here for a printable reading log.

We will have prizes for the top readers and an ice cream sundae party for everyone who participates.

Please check out other summer reading programs through the public libraries and also Barnes & Nobles.

Have A Great Summer and let the Challenge begin.
