March 12, 2018 – Thirty-seven Idaho High Schools competed in the state debate tournament hosted at Boise High School last weekend. West Ada Schools made a strong presence overall, winning two of three team sweepstakes awards and three of four individual champion titles. In small school sweepstakes, 1st place went to Renaissance High School. In large school sweepstakes, 1st place went to Eagle High School, 2nd place to Centennial High School and 4th place to Rocky Mountain High School.
In CONGRESSIONAL debate, individual awards included: semifinalist Kyle Morgan of Renaissance and quarterfinalist Nicholas Kochergin of Renaissance.
In POLICY debate, individual awards included: 1st place Mark Eusterman and Michael Eusterman of Eagle; 2nd place Ashley Gordon and Cara Liu of Eagle; semifinalists Robyn Harper and David Luke of Mountain View; quarterfinalists Maegan Barr and Foxx Harrington of Eagle; octofinalists Kaylee Haug and Alyssa Lee of Renaissance, and Dylan Johnson and J.J. Nugent of Centennial.
In LINCOLN-DOUGLAS debate, individual awards included: 1st place Harrison Hall of Centennial; 2nd place Avalyn Hine of Centennial; semifinalist Olivia Niederer of Eagle; and octofinalist Emma Charters of Eagle.
In PUBLIC FORUM debate, individual awards included: 1st place McCoy Dorr and Payton Jenkins of Rocky Mountain; semifinalists Cora Knueven and Kaitlyn Bellamy of Rocky Mountain; quarterfinalists Julia Maas and Madisen Miller of Eagle, Bo Romans and Puja Batchu of Centennial, and Brianna Ellison and Emma James of Eagle; and octofinalists Valerie Araki and John Houser of Eagle.
Students will compete next at the district speech tournament on April 7 at Mountain Home High School.
