Bub Begins Superintendence July 1, Ranells Retiring
West Ada School District Board of Trustees announced Tuesday that Dr. Derek Bub will be the new superintendent.
“We are pleased to welcome Dr. Bub as our next superintendent,” said Board Chair Amy Johnson. “It was a rigorous and extensive hiring process and we are extremely pleased with the result.”
"I am extremely thankful to our Board of Trustees and the ISBA for their hard work and dedication to our school district throughout this process," said Dr. Bub. "I am incredibly honored to lead and serve West Ada School District in partnership with our wonderful community, spectacular teachers and staff, and amazing students."
Dr. Derek Bub has served as the Principal at Centennial High School since 2019 and has been with the West Ada School District since 2017, when he previously served as the Assistant Principal at Mountain View High School. Prior to his tenure in Idaho, Dr. Bub was the Principal in the Bonita High School in La Verne, California, the Assistant Principal of Educational Services at Etiwanda High School in Ontario, California. He has also previously served as the Assistant Principal, Athletic Director, Head Varsity Football Coach, and Mathematics Teacher for Chino Hills High School in California. Dr. Bub has a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice, a Master’s degree in Secondary Curriculum and Instruction, holds a Superintendent Certificate in Organizational Leadership, and recently completed his Doctorate degree in Educational Leadership.
As Dr. Bub embarks on this journey, he is looking forward to maintaining a strong focus on student learning, and engaging with all stakeholders to carry out the district mission of “Preparing Today’s Students for Tomorrows Challenges”, while collaboratively identifying areas of continual improvement.
Dr. Bub will replace Dr. Mary Ann Ranells, who announced her resignation in January of this year, she was named Superintendent of the West Ada School District in December of 2015. With her guidance, school leaders and staff have utilized professional learning communities and the High Reliability Schools Framework to provide collaborative and higher quality consistent instruction in every school. She has also guided the district through major growth and several facility openings. Dr. Ranells will continue as Superintendent of Schools through June 30, 2021.
