This series of classes is intended to cover a wide range of parenting topics. It will be facilitated by Shawna Manhire and Lisa Currin, counselors at Victory Middle School. We will incorporate guest speakers, current research and our 32 years of combined school counseling experience to bring awareness and information to parents and families. There is no cost to attend, but to insure there is adequate space and materials, we request that you pre-register for the class by going to the links listed below for each topic. You may sign up for one or all these classes, but you must go to each link individually to sign up.
Homework and Organization Help for your Student

Learn ways to help organize your student’s binder, homework space, time management and prioritizing, ways to study for exams and note taking techniques.
Anxiety – What to do and How to Help your Student
Tuesday November 13, 2018 6:00 to 8:00 (Pre-Register by November 9th)
This session will include a YouTube presentation from experts in the field as well as practical tips and information to help your child effectively deal with their emotions at school.
Mean, Rude, Bullying: Definitions for Parents and How to Help your Student
Tuesday January 15, 2019, 6:00 to 8:00 (Pre-Register by January 11th)
Hear a discussion from VMS’s resource officer, Shannon Garza on understanding the difference between peer conflict and bullying and ways parents can assist their student in being pro-active in avoiding being bullied.
Drug and Alcohol Use Among Teens

Learn information from the “Not My Kid” Presentation which is part of the Meridian Anti-Drug Coalition. In addition to current trends and the impact that emerging drug trends are having on teens.
Suicidal Ideations and Tendencies Among Teens

This session will have a guest speaker that will help parents understand factors that put teens at risk and information on what to do to keep your student safe.
