I am so happy to be your child's 5th grade teacher. 2020 has been a challenging year, but we are all getting into the swing of it.
First, I want to update you on computer issues that have been happening. Please be sure to have your child do a complete shutdown and restart every day when they start using their computer at home. They will need click the Windows icon in the bottom left corner of their desktop, click on the power button and click shut down. After the computer has completely shut down, have them count to 10 and then push the power button on the outside of the computer to restart. If they get a message saying: “Update and shutdown,” please have them select that option. This should clear up the rest of the problems. Students will need to do this every day. We also take this step at school. If your child takes this step and is still having issues, please let me know so I can trouble shoot and get help to get them resolved.
Parents, I want to let you know how proud I am of your kiddos. They have been so willing to wear the masks and stick to the recess and other restrictions. I really appreciate their cooperation and great attitudes.
Most kiddos are getting pretty comfortable with our at home schedule. Here is the link for Monday’s T1 schedule. Students will get significantly behind if they are not doing their at home work. If your child is struggling with this, please let me know so I can better support them with this.
Finally, we have learned how to check our missing work in PowerSchool. We have several grades posted now, so please make a regular schedule of checking missing work and checking grades, so you are aware of your child’s progress. We check missing work and grades each Monday, Tuesday, and Friday mornings. I would recommend parents check missing work and grades at least once/week. Your child should be able to show you how to do this. If you need your parent password, the office staff at Prospect can help you with that. You can also look at missing work and grades through your child’s log-in.
Again, please let me know if you have any questions or concerns. Communication is even more important than ever this year. Have a great week.
