(2017-2018) Creating Local Norms for Gifted and Talented Student Identification
In order to ensure that students are selected for gifted and talented (GT) programs based on ability and talent, districts have long used a variety of methods for identification. These methods, however, are typically based on selection of top students within age-related cohorts of students. Judgments about student “exceptionality” depend importantly on the norm group that is used and compared. This study sought to identify local "norms" for the West Ada School District to use in GT identification.
