I’m excited to be your child’s third grade teacher this school year.  I will be spending a great deal of time with your child this year, so I’d like to introduce myself.  I am originally from Iowa, but I grew up in Boise.  I graduated from Borah High School and from Boise State University.  My husband and I have been married twenty years.  We have two children; both currently in high school and both were students at Joplin.

This is my ninth year as a 3rd grade teacher at Joplin Elementary.  I have previously taught 5th grade at Joplin for seven years and have taught 6th, 7th, and 8th grade at Middleton Middle School for 9 years.   I can honestly say I really love teaching 3rd grade.  The curriculum is exciting and the students are maturing at this age and beginning to view themselves as members of a community.  It's wonderful to teach children who are so eager to learn.  I do my best to make school fun and have a safe environment.  It is my goal to have parents be a part of  their child's learning experience.  Always feel welcome to ask questions and discuss concerns.  On that note, I greatly appreciate parent volunteers in the classroom.  If you are able to help in any way, even from home, I'd love your support.

During the school year, we will be studying many interesting subjects.  Your student will read and respond to literature and have various types of daily practice in language arts.  The structure of the math will help your child to become proficient in math facts and gain an understanding of many concepts.   Science will give your child the opportunity to explore simple machines, states of matter, interactions in ecosystems, and the cycles of the earth.  In Social Studies your child will learn about the importance of communities.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.  This will be a fabulous year filled with incredible, positive memories!
