Applied Accounting

The Applied Accounting program provides students with an opportunity to explore the world of financial & accounting professions.  Throughout the pathway, students will gain skills and knowledge by analyzing business transactions, banking procedures, payroll transactions, financial statements and analysis, managerial accounting, and computerized accounting programs. 

Students will have an opportunity to receive the Intuit QuickBooks Certification as well as participate in the career technical student organization, Business Professionals of America (BPA).

Pathway Course Sequence:

  • Business Essentials or Personal Finance

    9th or 10th grade, semester class

  • Accounting I A & B
    10th or 11th grade, full year class

  • Accounting II A & B
    11th or 12th grade, full year class

Exponential Career Opportunities
Accountants specialize in different areas of the financial world.  Some work for organizations that specialize in assurance services, risk management or specific industries, such as finance, insurance, or healthcare.  The following are some examples of the various titles of accountants"

  • Government or Non-Profit Accountants (IRS, State Agencies)

  • Public Accountants (Tax Attorney, Real Estate Appraiser, Tax Preparer) 

  • Management Accountants

  • Internal Auditors

Job Projections- Looking Good
Employment of accountants and auditors is projected to grow 4% from 2019 to 2029, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. Globalization, a growing economy, and a complex tax and regulatory environment are expected to continue to lead to strong demand for accountants and auditors.
