UPDATE: Middle School Science Textbook Adoption Committee - March 12, 2026

The Middle School Science Textbook Adoption Committee continues our work in selecting instructional support materials for our students and teachers. Our Middle School Science Textbook Adoption Committee began this process by reviewing six high quality- science programs. The committee, made up of 12 teachers and 13 parents, evaluated each resource for program design, student experience, student support, teacher usability, and key practical considerations. Throughout the review, the committee placed special emphasis on identifying materials that help teachers get students thinking and “doing” science while minimizing student screen time.

After a thorough evaluation, the committee has selected two finalists for continued review: Amplify Science and TCI: Bring Science Alive.

At this point in the process we need public comment. Public comment will be open from March 23–April 10. Physical copies of both the Amplify Science and TCI: Bring Science Alive materials will be available for review at Lake Hazel Middle School, Heritage Middle School, and the District Service Center. Community members may also view the resources online using provided access credentials below. The Committee is excited to hear public input, please submit feedback through this 🔗public comment form.

Parent Volunteers Needed - Updated schedule.

Help choose the new middle school science textbook that will be used starting Fall 2026. This new resource will be central to helping our science teachers engage students in high-quality learning.

Parents and teachers will work together to review and evaluate resources, narrow options to two finalists for public review, and make a recommendation to the School Board (per District Policy 602.30 and 602.30-AR(1)). Review and evaluation will occur during meetings, so parent volunteers need to be able to commit to all the dates.

When/Where: In-person meetings at the District Service Center from 6:30pm-8:30pm on the following dates:

  • Tue Feb 3rd – introduction and review 2-3 resources

  • Tue Feb 17th – review 3-4 resources

  • Tue Mar 3rd – narrow it down to top 2

  • Tue Mar 31st – vendor presentation for resources 1 and 2

  • Tue April 14th – final discussion and decision

We need at least 15 parents. If you’re interested, please complete this 🔗brief survey.
