STAFF OF THE WEEK: Annalisa Nava. Ms. Nava, the teacher who never gives up — explaining concepts a thousand ways until it clicks! She makes math fun and shows incredible patience with every student. Perhaps we would have all fallen in love with math in middle school if we would have had a teacher like Ms. Nava who can make a dry lesson on graphing and coordinate grids into a creative and engaging activity. LHMS is very lucky to have Ms. Nava!

STAFF OF THE WEEK: Jason Hazlitt. Mr. Hazlitt is an incredible example of kindness, understanding, and teamwork. He consistently goes above and beyond to support our school by teaching multiple subjects wherever he’s needed. His flexibility and positive attitude make a lasting impact on both LHMS students and LHMS Staff. Thank you, Mr. Hazlitt, for all you do to help our school succeed!

Mark your calendar. The Lake Hazel Middle School Book Fair is coming November 10-14!

STAFF OF THE WEEK: Karen Miller. Mrs. Miller is a quiet rockstar, always engaging in new lesson ideas and going above and beyond for her students and peers. This year, she has taken on two new courses, a challenge that she has faced with dedication and positivity. Thank you, Mrs. Miller, for being awesome!

Picture Retake Day : This Friday, October 24th.

STAFF OF THE WEEK: Suzy Bird. Mrs. Bird always goes above and beyond! She accommodates the needs of her students and even gives up her lunch period to make sure they get their work done. She is positive and always has the best interest of others at the forefront of her mind, including her peers who she graciously helps on all fronts. Mrs. Bird, your time and efforts are appreciated!

STAFF OF THE WEEK: Natalie Maclachlan. Ms. Mac pours her heart into everything she does. While she will say she is "just doing what she does," she continually goes above and beyond for our students! She doesn’t just teach—she sparks imagination, builds confidence, and brings out the best in her students. Thank you, Ms. Mac, for your endless dedication, your passion, and the way you make learning unforgettable. Our school shines brighter because of you!

STAFF OF THE WEEK: Gay Erb. A huge thank you to our amazing math coach, Ms. Erb! She is always ready to jump in and cover classes, lend a helping hand, and support wherever she’s needed. Her eagerness, positivity, and dedication shine through in everything she does, and we’re so grateful for the energy and encouragement she brings to our school community every day.

I thank you on behalf of every staff member, student, and family for the security you've brought to our school. Your attention to detail and support of everyone in the building is admirable. LHMS is a better, safer place because of both of you!

STAFF OF THE WEEK: Tobi Johnson. Ms. Johnson's commitment to student advocacy and success sets an amazing example for us all. In addition, she is willing to step in and help with any need, always bringing a smile. Thank you for being the best!

STAFF OF THE WEEK: Chris Schmidt. Nurse Chris: Your thoughtfulness and care for students and co-workers radiates in this school. You are attentive to every detail and always look out for the best interest of your patient. We are all so blessed to work alongside you and learn from you.

The 25-26 LHMS staff has hit the ground running with a great start to the year. With exciting changes in the building and a fantastic group of students, we know this will be one of the best years yet. Proud to be a Lynx!

STAFF OF THE WEEK: Rebecca Reed. Ms. Reed has been so awesome with her students - intentional, thoughtful, and compassionate. She is resourceful and asks great questions, which result in benefitting the greater community at LHMS. We are so lucky to have you!

STAFF OF THE WEEK: Madeline van Santen. A big thank you to Madeline “Mad Dog” van Santen for her cool use of intellect under pressure and the best played response to i-Ready curveballs Lake Hazel has seen these many years.

STAFF OF THE WEEK: Caitlin Gibson. Huge shout-out to Ms. Gibson for absolutely crushing it during our first week of teaching this year! Despite a number of curveballs being thrown her way, she’s handled everything with grace, patience, and professionalism. Her positive attitude and calm presence have made a big difference, and we’re so lucky to have her on the team.
