Spalding STEM Academy

🦅The Eagle's Nest announcement: We have our annual Leaf Drive coming up and two volunteer workdays scheduled in the garden.  See the flyers posted below for more information.  Happy Fall!

🦅🌱The Eagle's Nest had SO many wonderful students visit our outside classroom in September.  Students harvested seeds, arranged flower bouquets, planted cool-weather crops, and made compost in mason jars!  We've loved learning together outside!

🦅🌱Mrs. Koval's first graders explored the Eagles Nest and created cut flower bouquets for their special person. Eagles SOAR!

🦅Have you seen your child's _________? Lost & Found items will be donated Friday, September 25. Come get your stuff!

🦅🐷🎃 Spalding's PTO presents: Kiss the Pig - Our annual fall FUNdraiser. Students may bring spare change to vote for the teacher/staff member to Kiss the Pig! Jars are located inside the main doors. Hope to see you there!

🦅🌱The Spalding Garden, called The Eagle's Nest, recently welcomed two kindergarten classes out for our first harvest of the school year - HARVESTING POTATOES!  Mrs. Ousdahl and Ms. Malone brought their students outside to learn how to harvest potatoes that were planted last spring.  Digging in the soil, students found potatoes of many different colors, shapes and sizes!  It was so fun to have these students visit the garden! The garden has really transformed since this time last year, and we truly want to thank all of our amazing parent and community volunteers who have made it into a beautiful outdoor classroom space for our school.  Thank you!

🦅📚We hope to see you at Spalding's Back to School Night, August 27th from 6-730 PM

🦅🥪 Summer Meal information:

🦅🌱🐞Ms. Murphy’s class recently visited the school garden to learn all about POLLINATORS!  Did you know that 1 in 3 bites of food you eat depends on pollinators?  Her class looked at flower samples, planted seeds that will grow into pollinator friendly plants, inspected the body of a bee, took a tour of the garden, and even learned some garden yoga

🦅🌱The ground is warming up, so you know what that means...it's almost time to plant our seeds and seedlings! Take a look at the after-school schedule for Spalding's school garden, and see if you can join us to learn, explore and prepare our garden for summer break!

Speaking of summer break - you can also read information about our "Summer Garden Club"!  We need some students and their families to help maintain and harvest crops this summer alongside our head gardener, Miss Katie.  Are you interested in joining her this summer?

🦅🏆Congratulations to Miss Tabitha, Mr. Liberty, and Miss Robin. They were honored last week at the We Are West Ada Awards. We appreciate your dedication to our Spalding kids and staff.

🦅🧥Lost & Found will be donated after school on Friday, May 1.

🦅🌎 Spalding's Earthy Day Assembly included poems from each grade level, special performances from our Honors Choir, and a presentation from our Garden Committee. Thank you Mrs. Coombs, Mrs. Magee, and Garden Committee for making our 1st annual assembly amazing!

🦅🦷Kindergartners had some special visitors show up at Spalding. The Tooth Fairy and Big Tooth came to teach them about taking care of their teeth. They received a baggie of dental care products to take home.

🦅🪩Westy hosted a dance party with bubbles and popsicles for Spalding students last Friday. This was a reward to Spalding students for placing 2nd in the Hoops for Hunger contest. Go, Eagles!

🦅🍊Kindergartners have ZEST! They all showed up on April 13th. Mrs Hampton bought them cuties and squishies. Thanks, Parents, for getting your kids to school 📚💯
