Spalding STEM is looking for volunteers to help with the Book Fair! Our Book Fair theme this year is, Space: To the Book Fair and Beyond. I am having students help me with the decorations and will be starting to decorate on Tuesday, February 11. There are also time slots to sign up for during the book fair where you will be assisting students as they come during their normal library special. They will be looking at the books, making a wish list (younger kids will need help writing) and some will help run the register if they purchase something. Finally, there are some time slots assigned to help to set up and take down the fair. ❄️ Snow Day Announcement – Friday, February 7th ❄️ Dear West Ada Families, As snow blankets our community with its magical touch, we’ve received a very special message from our snow-loving friend—the yeti! And the yeti has made the call: School will be closed today, Friday, February 7th, due to inclement weather. Current road conditions show approximately 5 inches of snow accumulation on the ground, making travel difficult. Our local weather partners predict a significant rain and snow mix over the next 1-2 hours, with temperatures expected to rise above freezing by 9:00 AM. Considering the challenges this creates for the morning commute and out of an abundance of caution for our students, families, and staff traveling to school and work, we have made the decision to cancel school for the day. We’re also excited to announce our "Yeti Sightings Snow Day Fun!" challenge! 🐾 Can you create your own yeti? Whether it’s a snow yeti, a drawing, or a crafty creation, we want to see your most imaginative ideas! Throwback to December at Spalding STEM: Mrs. Kalbfleisch's Second Grade class built snowmen. But there was a challenge to this activity- They worked in partners, used 1 candy cane, 3 marshmallows, and only 1 hand each. Students worked collaboratively to stack the three marshmallows.

Our 2nd Grade program was a wonderful success! Additional student pictures pending...but here is a picture of our principal as a hippopotamus! We had a fundraiser for music program and Mrs. Hampton got the most votes (AKA- money in her jar), so she got to dance around during one very special Christmas song. Our fundraiser earned a total of $256 which will help enhance our music program. This next week is Holiday Spirit week for Spalding STEM. See the pictured schedule for each days theme. Staff secretly started Spirit Week 3 days early! It was a secret so students were left to wonder. Students were heard saying things like "What's wrong with the teachers?", "This is sus!", "Why is everyone wearing that?" And more. It was a fun way to keep the kids engaged and detail oriented during this busy month. How did the teachers dress? Wednesday was wear all black and drink out of anything but a cup. Thursday was wear a flannel shirt and socks with sandals. Friday was tutu's and ties. We didn't get many pictures because we spend our days focused on learning.
