Congratulations to our 8th grade basketball "A" team, coached by Coach Kinnaman! The final score was 43-40! They were victorious last night against Meridian and will be playing in the CHAMPIONSHIP game TONIGHT at 5pm at Meridian vs. Eagle!
Let’s go Kodiaks! Let’s all show up wearing blue!

During the February 27, 2023 Regular Board Meeting, West Ada School District’s (WASD) Board of Trustees voted to include a Plant Facilities Levy (PFL) on Idaho’s May 2023 ballot. The PFL’s term is ten years, it will collect $50M annually, and 55% voter approval is required to pass.
At the February 13, 2023 Regular Board Meeting, WASD Chief Operations Officer Jonathan Gillen and Director of Education Services David Reinhart presented the board with information about PFLs and bonds. The presentation detailed facility needs throughout the district and outlined methods used to collect data. Additionally, Gillen explained that a school district must have a proven record of fiscal responsibility to qualify to run a PFL.
“I’ve toured schools throughout the district and have seen that some of our buildings need renovations or upgrades firsthand,” said Lori Frasure, Chair of the WASD Board of Trustees. “I’m grateful for the district's diligence in addressing these needs. Even more so, I’m excited that we’re doing our best to support our kids and put them in the best learning environments possible,” continued Frasure.
While each WASD school will benefit from the PFL, the largest projects include a new elementary school in the south region, a new elementary school in the north region, and a new CTE center to accommodate rapid growth in the area. Centennial High School, Lake Hazel Middle School, and Lowell Scott Middle School will receive considerable remodeling. Elementary school playgrounds throughout the district will be upgraded for increased safety and accessibility. The PFL also provides the district the opportunity to continually reevaluate and address facility needs as growth in the community is monitored.
“The Plant Facilities Levy is another opportunity for our community to support West Ada students,” said Dr. Derek Bub, Superintendent of West Ada School District. “If we are all in for our kids, there’s no doubt that there will be a return on investment, whether it’s in the form of high academic achievement, a stronger workforce, or graduates that stay in the community they grew up in and pay it forward.”
Learn more about the PFL on the WASD website.

8th Grade Boys Basketball:
On Wednesday afternoon our A/B teams both had big wins on the road at Sawtooth. The A team won 48-32 and the B team won 49-30. Both of our C-teams returned to action on Thursday evening when the played a couple hard fought games against Heritage and Eagle. It is hard to believe but there are only two games left in the season before the District Championship kicks off on Monday, February 27th. Our last two games will be at home next week on Wednesday, February 22 vs Lake Hazel, and then Thursday, February 23rd vs Lewis and Clark. Make sure to come out and cheer our boys on! Currently, our A team sits in 2nd place in the standings and are looking to take care of business next week to secure a high seed in the tournament. The top 4 teams will host the first round of the District Tournament at their respective homes on Monday, February 27th. Then the tournament will move to host Meridian for Tuesday, February 28th, and Wednesday, March 1st. Stay tuned for updated information.

“Leyla is such a delight to have in class. She is so positive, hard-working and extremely helpful! She recently befriended a new student and got her completely caught up to where we were at as a class without even being asked. Thank you, Leyla, for being such a positive influence on your peers!” CONGRATULATIONS!

8th Grade Boys Basketball: Our boys basketball teams had a great showing at Star with 3 out of the 4 teams getting the W’s on Monday. On Wednesday their winning ways continued with the A, B, and C teams getting wins over Meridian. The A game was exciting as it took an OT period to pull out the victory. It’s great for the boys to be in these closely contested games to learn how to win and persevere.
A huge highlight of the week was getting a text message from the Star Athletic Director telling me that he was so impressed with your sons. He said “that our student athletes that came over were the nicest most cordial kids I’ve ever had come to our school. They did a great job”. This is the stuff that makes us so proud! Great job Kodiaks, keep representing.
